Event Description:
"Head Games: The Global Concussion Crisis," with Ray Ciancaglini. Ray Ciancaglini, of Geneva, New York, was an aspiring middleweight boxer (1966-1974) who showed promise of a successful career. That Ray Ciancaglini is gone. Ray suffers from Dementia Pugilistica, also known as Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, Pugilistic Parkinson's Syndrome, Boxer's Syndrome or Punch-Drunk Syndrome, which is a neurological disorder that affects career boxers and others who receive multiple blows to the head. The condition develops over a period of years, with average onset of 16 years after the start of a career in boxing. Symptoms manifest as dementia, with a decline in mental ability, Parkinson's-like tremors and lack of coordination. Followed by Ray's lecture is the documentary "Head Games," that follows football player and pro-wrestler Chris Nowinski's quest to uncover the truth about the consequences of sports related head injuries. 2014, Rated PG-13, 75 minutes (documentary).

Tickets are available at the Utica Box Office-IT 106 (located next to Schafer Theater) in the IT Building of the Utica Campus, Monday-Friday from 10:00am-2:00pm, and 1 hour prior to the start time. Tickets are available on the Rome Campus in the Student Services Office in the Plumley Complex, Monday-Thursday from 8:30am-7:00pm, and Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm.
MVCC STUDENTS: This will count towards; 1 out of your 4 DGV events for degree seeking students or 1 out of your 2 DGV events for certificate seeking students. Fulfilling your DGV criteria is mandatory for Graduation. You must arrive on time, stay until the end of the event, and present a valid photo ID to receive DGV credit.
